BRINGING HOME A PUPPY
When you first bring home a puppy, he/she can be traumatized by everything that is happening at once. Firstly they do not know you or your smell, even though they find it comforting being in your warm and cosy arms while you stand there together before you leave. But once the car engine starts and they realise that their mother is no longer with them, there is a stranger holding them and there is a big hole there that they do not understand and worry that they can fall into - they can become very scared. Many dogs remember this fear into the future, and are never happy travelling in a car.
Our SLINGGUARD range has two choices to help you overcome this and make this a pleasurable experience for both you and your new puppy. If you have a small sized dog you can use our Single Car Seat Protector which can then continue to be used for travelling in many years after. If you have a puppy which will be a medium or large sized dog, our full sized car seat protector can be converted into a half back seat basket for security and comfort in the beginning, and then expanded to the full back seat cover (or boot protector) for many years use thereafter. Because they are both 100% waterproof and are machine washable, if your puppy has an accident, there is no need to worry!
It is important to make this first time experience with you a comfortable time for them. Before you leave the puppy's mother, make sure you have a small blanket that has been rubbed all over her and so has her smell on it for him to snuggle into. By putting both him and the blanket into a soft firm fur lined area with sides all around - he feels secure.
The Single Seat Car Protector can be placed in the middle of the back seat with a person seated beside it so they can talk and pet the puppy to use help soothe it at this traumatic time. As they cannot see the big hole in front of them (pups usually do not have good depth perception), they are able to relax and travel calmly, snuggled into their mother's blanket in a warm environment.
The Full Size SLINGGUARD Car Seat Protector is a perfect choice if you are travelling with a puppy who will grow to a medium or large size dog. The span of the seat protector can be halved by unzipping the middle, placing and securing the removed half on top of the other half to form a half seat box. It is extremely firm, as the protector is very thick (2cm) and when doubled in the middle it is now 4cm thick, is extremely sturdy and doesn't move. Once again you can have a person sitting beside him giving comfort.
We designed these two seat protectors for our own dogs. The full size was designed to travel with our Border Collies Missy and Beau, and the single seat was designed for our Bordoodle, Zorro.
